Day 1: Kibale national Park

Depart from capital city Kampala and drive to Kibale 358km via tourism city Fort Portal. You will leave the early in the morning and drive west through Mityana and Mubende towns. Arrive Fort Portal in early afternoon, marvel at the stunning palace of Toro Kingdom, the Royal tombs, the numerous shops and the mosque before driving on to Kibale, only a couple of kilometers ahead. Have lunch at Gardens Restaurant a best restaurant in Fort Portal city overlooking Mpanga River meandering through the city giving you real natural breath while enjoying your lunch and Mpanga market one of the oldest market in Uganda. On arrival, you will check into Ndali lodge or the Primate Lodge and have yourself at the lodge or walk around watch the diversity of flora and overnight.

Day 2: Chimp Tracking

Following an early breakfast, set out tracking chimps close to Kanyanchu. This may take half of the day. You will expect see several primates in this region such as the golden monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, baboons, blue monkeys, white & black colobus monkeys, the grey checked Mangabey, Pottos and red colobus. Other animals include forest elephants which are a common type, large forest hogs as well as several tree species.

Later have a guided nature walk to the impressive Bigodi swamp sanctuary, a wonderful haven for birds. Among the 137 bird species here, you may see the Great Blue Turaco as well as the Papyrus Gonolek. There is as well a diversity of butterfly species. Head back to the luxurious Ndali Lodge or the Crater Valley, here you will get the opportunity to go birding even when you are relaxing at your veranda.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After early breakfast leave for Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game drive along the Kasenyi track and the Queen’s Mile in search for lions, warthogs, elephants, antelope species, buffaloes, hippos and water-bucks. The Kasenyi Track is among the best game viewing places in Queen Elizabeth National Park and also a wonder bird watching destination and then go for lunch.

In the afternoon have a 3hour boat-cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This channel is a natural attraction for water birds while the Mweya peninsula serves as a migrant trap for Albertine Rift Endemics. On the banks of the channel you will spot bird species like the Great White & Pink-backed Pelicans, the African Open Billed Stork, the Black Crake, Yellow-backed Weaver, the Great & Long-tailed Cormorants, the Common Squacco Heron, Malachite, the White-faced Whistling as well as Knob billed Ducks, Yellow-backed Weaver, the African Fish Eagle, Spur-winged & African Wattled Plovers, Water Thick Knee, Swamp Flycatcher as well as the African Jacana.

Day 4: Chimp Tracking in Kyambura Gorge-Transfer to Bwindi

Following an early breakfast, set out tracking chimpanzees in the gorge also known as the “Valley of Apes”, while there you will be amazed at the rich Tropical Rain-forest in this area of which guided nature walks can also be carried out. Other animals that can be seen include; Black and white colobus monkey, red tailed monkey, giant forest hogs among others. Later drive to Bwindi Forest National Park. Check in and have dinner at Gorilla Forest Camp or Buhoma Homestead or Gorilla resort or Buhoma community Bandas.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking- Bwindi Forest

After an early breakfast, go to the headquarters where you will be briefed about the gorilla trekking in the impenetrable forests. You will be allowed to spend an hour in the presence of the gorillas after trekking for about 3 to 5 hours. Other options include taking the Munyanja river trail, to see the stunning waterfalls plus the great profusion of bird-life or a community walk within the Batwa community.

Dine and slumber at Gorilla Forest Camp or Buhoma Homestead or Gorilla resort or Buhoma community Bandas.

Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi

In the morning after having breakfast you will depart from this mountain gorilla sanctuary and drive to Lake Bunyonyi which is another primary tourist stopover which is outstandingly very marvelous. Bunyonyi is a local word for “small birds” in reference to the several birds that live around here making it a favorite destination for birders.

You will be able to see several small islands among other highlights here. On arrival you will have a canoe ride you will see the various small islands such as Buwama Island also a wonderful destination for birders. Alternatively, you could take a nature walk which will help you to appreciate a great diversity of small birds here.

Dine and overnight at the Bunyonyi Overland Camp or Arcadia Cottages.

Day 7: Kampala

Following breakfast drive back at leisure to Kampala, stop at the equator pictures and arrive early evening.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 8: Free day in Kampala  

This day as it marks the end of the safari, you will have it to do shopping, relax at the hotel and prepare for airport drop off in the evening depending on your schedule for flight.
